Dogs are cute. It’s a universal fact. And even if you are terrified of dogs because they move too fast or they’re too happy, you can still admit that they are cute to look at. There is a reason that there are so many videos on social media of people doing voiceovers for dogs and pretending they understand the inner workings of a dog’s mind, and it’s because they’re funny and adorable. Dogs are fun to play with, but they eat a lot, they poop a lot, they get into all kinds of mischief, and they are like having toddlers that never really grow up.
They’re expensive too, which is something you have to consider if you’re planning on ever getting a dog. But they do require your time and attention, and that’s exactly what you intend on doing when you get yourself a dog. If you don’t want to do that, get a cat, because cats leave you alone until they want you. If you need to get a pet, then you need a dog, and there are some simple reasons why.
- They make you happy. Whether you are joining a breeding programme so that you can breed and sell your own dogs, or you simply just want to have a four legged friend to play with, dogs can easily make you happy. Spending just half an hour with a puppy can make you feel calm, relaxed and it can really help to give you that dopamine boost you were looking for. Those neurotransmitters of yours that are associated with pleasure and tranquility are there for a reason, and dogs seem to trigger it.
- You’re going to recover from illness more quickly. Believe it or not, dog owners have a much higher rate of recovery when they become sick than somebody who doesn’t own a dog. Humans with dogs who suffer from heart attacks are twice as likely to fully recover. So cuddle your dog and let him make you feel less stressed and more relaxed. You won’t believe the change in yourself when you do that.
- You’re going to improve your physical fitness. When you have a dog, you have to get it walking and get it outside, and that means you’re going to be moving a lot more than you think you will be. Your dog requires daily exercise, but so do you. As a dog owner, you carry a huge responsibility of playing with and working with your dog. This means you are being pulled out of your comfort zone and you have to be more active and outdoorsy whether you like it or not, because your dog depends on you.
- They’re going to help you with your social life. Not only do dogs need your care and attention, but they need time to socialize with other pups. This means that you’re going to have the chance to socialize with other dog owners. Puppy play dates are a real thing, and you’re going to be able to bond with other dog owners over your mutual love of puppies.
