Spring is a season of new beginnings. A time when nature comes back to life after the long winter months. It’s a time to shed the heavy layers of clothing and embrace the warmth and sunshine that comes with the season. Spring is also an excellent time to focus on your health and wellness, as it provides ample opportunities to adopt new habits and make positive changes.
Here are some tips to help you achieve optimal health and wellness this spring:
Get Active Outdoors + Analyze Your Overall Health
Spring is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and running. Take advantage of the warmer weather and longer days to get active outdoors. Not only does outdoor activity improve your physical health, but it can also have a positive impact on your mental health by reducing stress and improving your mood. But, before you go all out, it’s important to know about your body, inside and out.
Elysium Health – Index Biological Age Test
“Elysium Health’s mission is to solve the biggest challenges in health with science, to help people lead healthier lives. Working directly with the world’s leading scientists and clinicians, Elysium Health is committed to translating critical advancements in aging research into health solutions people can access today. Learn more at elysiumhealth.com.”
Something I’ve slightly acknowledged but really never paid attention to is the difference between my chronological age and my biological age. Let’s dive in a little deeper with what the Index Biological Age Test can do for you with a simple saliva sample:
- Tests your DNA to get the age your body is expected to function/perform at
- Tests the speed that your body has been aging (cumulative rate of aging)
- Tests nine systems of biological age like heart, brain, metabolism, etc.
- Allow you to contribute to research with the Aging Research Center by Elysium Health
Okay, so what can we do once we have this information about ourselves?
- You can begin working to improve your health based on the above numbers.
- This is SO exciting to me, but also makes me a little nervous to get my results back. I’ve definitely been more stagnant since moving to TN, so I’m anxious to see what my test scores reveal.

Eat Seasonally + Try to Avoid the Junk
Spring is the season of fresh produce, so take advantage of the abundance of fruits and vegetables available at local farmers’ markets. Eating seasonally not only ensures that you are consuming the freshest and most nutritious produce, but it also supports local farmers and reduces your carbon footprint.
Spring can also be a busy season for families which means more takeout and less healthy meals at home. Food that are high in fat, sugar, and salt, can trigger heartburn – which I deal with quite often.
When we consume these types of foods, our bodies produce more stomach acid to help break down the food. This increased production of stomach acid can cause the acid to flow back up into the esophagus, causing that horrible burning sensation known as heartburn.
-> To prevent heartburn, it’s recommended to limit or avoid junk food (easier said than done sometimes) and focus on consuming a balanced diet that is low in fat, sugar, and salt.
-> To treat heartburn, keep Wonderbelly on-hand. Trust me on this one!
Wonderbelly
Created by a fellow digestive health struggler, Wonderbelly Antacids is a great option to treat heartburn, acid indigestion and a sour belly – except it does it without GMO’s, talc, dyes, gluten, dairy, synthetic sweeters, etc.
I kid you not; the day I received my BabbleBoxx with Wonderbelly in it, I had to use it to treat a horrible sour stomach from eating cookies with artificial sweeteners in it. Wonderbelly worked so well that I will now be recommending them to everyone. And you can now find them at Target and Target.com! How cool is that?
Discount: Text your receipt showing you purchased Wonderbelly to 507-652-5235 to receive $5 back on your Wonderbelly purchase.
Stay Hydrated
As the temperatures rise, it’s essential to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, and avoid sugary drinks that can dehydrate you. If you struggle to drink enough water like I do, try infusing it with fruit for a refreshing and flavorful twist. Or simply try using an insulated cup and drinking with a straw!
Practice Mindfulness
Spring is a time of renewal, so take some time to focus on your mental health and practice mindfulness. Whether it’s through meditation, listening to podcasts, taking some “me time” to read a good book, yoga, or simply taking a walk in nature, practicing mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve overall wellbeing.
When you read a book, you are fully engaged in the present moment, focusing your attention on the words and ideas presented to you. This focused attention can help to quiet the mind and reduce distractions, promoting a sense of mindfulness.
Reading can also help you to gain a better understanding of yourself and others. When you read, you are exposed to different perspectives, experiences, and emotions, which can help you to become more aware of your own thoughts and feelings. This increased self-awareness can promote mindfulness and help you to stay present in the moment.

Kensington Books is home to SO any great titles including these two nail biters:
THOSE EMPTY EYES by Charlie Donlea
“You know her name. You know her face. You know THOSE EYES…”
“Ten years after she was exonerated for slaughtering her entire family, the girl the tabloids called “Empty Eyes” is the only one looking for the truth in this propulsive thriller from #1 internationally bestselling author Charlie Donlea.”

I’ve made a personal goal to not just read more digital books this year, but to read more physical books this year. And since I’m a huge fan of underdog stories, these two are the perfect fit for me. They have just enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat and I just love stories that keep me guessing. My brain naturally goes into “spy” mode with stories like this and I love it!
