How to Decorate with Baskets
If you don’t already own a variety of baskets, you can find them pretty inexpensive at garage sales, estate sales, Hobby Lobby, and stores like TJ Maxx.
When I’m decorating a space, I like to start with one focal point and work my way out. For this corner of my photography studio, I started by dragging this antique shelving unit to the center of the wall.
I then began pulling other decorative accents to compliment the shelving unit, like this stack of layered baskets.
I stacked a variety of baskets next to the antique shelving unit and, keeping the modern farmhouse mindset, I threw in some natural burlap scraps and dried eucalyptus. The combination of the scraps and dried plants add a warm, homey feeling to this corner.
I then pulled over a peacock chair, a faux fur rug, and some lace fabric to frame the shelving unit.
It’s Okay to Try Different Options
I am famous for changing up my decor often, so I didn’t end up keeping the peacock chair and lace fabric next to the shelf, but for the sake of taking pictures, they look really cute.
Don’t be afraid to try different decorating options, especially when trying the modern farmhouse look for the first time.
If you arrange some pieces and are just not loving how everything looks together, start over.
Shelf Styling with Baskets and Bowls
Just as I mentioned above, don’t be afraid to mix and match textures on your shelves. You can layer the heck out of them or keep them simple.
On my studio shelves, I layered baskets and wooden bowls with bohemian decor I found at TJ Maxx.
This wooden bowl is 100 years old and is giving me a total Picasso vibe with the lighting.
Pampas Grass
You all know I have an obsession with pampas grass right now, so any chance I get to throw a bunch of it in a vase, I do it. My studio is full of pampas grass, which especially goes with the jungalow, bohemian, and modern farmhouse designs.
Even if you are not decorating with baskets, pampas grass will still work with your decor.
