When thinking of traditional Houston, Texas, I think “extra” and flashy when it comes to fashion and home design. However, these contemporary, modern home design pictures are telling me that the state’s new money has a different idea of living a full life and I am 100% into it.
Gone are the days of the over-the-top architecture and interior design in Houston and in with the modern, sleek lines. No more marble, columns, and curio cabinets full of crap you don’t need.
One example is this fine contemporary on a bluff with breathtaking views over Buffalo Bayou (“river” to the rest of us), on almost nine acres of private woodland inside the city. The location can’t be beat for quick access to shopping, schools and restaurants, but one would never know they were close by.
Designed by Stern and Bucek to capture the beauty of surrounding nature, the interior quality of woods and surfaces complement, but do not distract, from bringing the outside in and the inside out, creating a seamless flow from first to second floor and across the structure.
One of my favorite things to do is bring the outdoors in and they did a beautiful job with this home. Read how to incorporate nature into your home.
Modern Home Design Goals
Comprised of approximately 14,868 square feet, the home has four bedrooms, eight baths, formal rooms, family room, library, media room with sliding wall, a huge, well-equipped gym and a special quiet spot for meditation overlooking the bayou with a zen sensibility. Okay, so maybe there’s a bit of excess space in this home, but that just means more room for activities! (name that movie)
Heating and cooling are geothermal and whole house technology makes it possible to monitor the home from any location in the world. This house is total smart home goals!
But you know, the one thing that comes to mind when looking through these pictures is…
Look at all that flooring to keep clean. I sure hope whomever lives there has a robotic vacuum. Or perhaps they just have a full-time cleaning person?
