Thank you Fortify Probiotics for sponsoring this post.
Have you ever noticed how your body tends to get used to a schedule if you maintain the same routine for a few days in a row? Things like travel and time changes can throw that routine off, but for the most part, many of us are on some kind of a schedule. Forming a daily routine including healthy habits like taking vitamins and probiotics, exercise, meditation, and having set meal times can help us feel more in control of our lives and bodies and a little less stressed. I am all about balance, though, so let’s take a look at some simple ways to establish a healthy daily routine without giving up your favorite guilty pleasures (like s’mores fraps).
Start Your Morning Off on a Positive Note
I personally don’t like feeling like I am not in control of my daily schedule, so my daily routine begins by sitting down with a warm cup of decaf coffee (caffeine enhances my anxiety) and going through my schedule for the day and rest of the week. I do this every single day so that I know how much time I have to finish each task on my to-do list.
I am big on the paper method and prefer to hand write my to-do lists and schedule, so I use a wall calendar to mark down when blog projects are due or when kids have parties or events to go to. I also have a note pad that has an entire week on each sheet so I use that to write down our meal plan for dinner as well as my daily to-do list. This is also a great time to take daily vitamins and probiotics.
If you haven’t discovered the benefits of probiotics yet, you should definitely try them out for yourself. My family uses Fortify Probiotics because they deliver 11 probiotic strains, prebiotics, billions more active cultures than the leading brands of probiotics.† These probiotics are also Non-GMO Project verified and contain researched strains to support digestive balance and immune health*. I prefer to take my probiotics first thing in the morning with a big glass of water. I take them before any food in the morning.
Eat Meals at the Same Time Every Day
For me personally, when I eat meals at the same time every day for a few days in a row, my body gets used to that and tells me when I’m hungry. I also try not to eat dinner late so that my body has time to digest my meal before bedtime.
Exercise Daily – Even If It’s Just a Little Bit
I sit at a desk for my job, so it’s so important for me to get up and move around every now and then. I try not to get down on myself if I don’t get a full workout in every day, but as long as I can do something, I know it’s beneficial for my body and mind.
Not everyone has enough daylight time to get a workout in and if you have a family, their needs usually come first. I have a silly little way of getting in movement each day, but it really works. Try this:
- Every time you go to the restroom, do 10 squats and 10 wall or countertop pushups.
- Take a little bit of time to stretch every hour or so. Roll your neck around, stretch your legs, move your arms around.
Get More Sleep
There are so many things that can contribute to added stress in our lives. For me, things like getting less sleep, poor diet, travel, and having too many things on the schedule completely throw my sense of control out of whack. I am learning the importance of maintaining a routine, even when the world around me is chaotic. One of the easiest ways to do this is to establish a sleep schedule.
If you have an iPhone, you can use the bedtime feature to have your phone remind you to go to bed, as well as when to wake up. This has been such a helpful app for me because I can easily stay up ‘til 1am watching TV. As soon as that timer goes off, I turn the TV off and head to bed. I typically don’t use my timers on the weekends, but because I use them all week my body is so used to the schedule that I naturally get tired and wake up around the same times.
Get the Whole Family Involved
When I am stressed, I am not the best version of me that my kids need. By maintaining a healthy routine from the start of my day to the end, I am less stressed and more likely to take things out on kids. I have my whole family in on the healthy morning routine and my girls absolutely love the Fortify Kids Probiotics – in fact, so much so that even when I forget to pass out the probiotics in the morning, they are quick to remind me that I forgot.
Life is all about balance and I’m not here to tell you to quit every unhealthy thing you do. My body loves a good routine and I simply hope to encourage you to start your own regimen of healthy habits.
