Home design trends seem to change so often and I find it completely exhausting and expensive to keep up. Seven years ago I thought dark laminate flooring would be a great idea, and most days I regret that decision because of how easily they get dirty. Since the floors are only seven years old, though, I find it difficult to justify switching them out. The truth is, they don’t get any dirtier than light wood floors, they just show the dust and dirt much sooner. In all my years of trial and error, I have found that the easiest way to clean dark hardwood floors has been the Swiffer WetJet Wood with the disposable cleaning pads.
My floors take a beating every day. Between my cat and dog shedding with every step, my husband walking through the house after a long bike ride with sweaty feet, Kendall practicing ballet and tap, Charlotte with her many art projects, and me making messes in the kitchen, daily care is a must.
I have found that steam cleaners start to hurt the wood after time and don’t dry quickly, which means they show streaks. A traditional mop also leaves way too much water on the floor and leaves streaks and spots all over. The spray mops with reusable pads are not bad, but after a while the pads get extremely greasy and start to leave streaks. What is the point of cleaning the floor to have it look worse when you’re done?
How I Keep My Dark Laminate Floors Clean
Step One.
An easy way to keep dark hardwood or laminate floors clean is to start by vacuuming or sweeping them daily. Sweeping is just a little too much effort for me daily, so I use my stick vacuum to quickly go over them. Someday I will invest in one of those robotic vacuums, but until then, regular vacuum it is!
Step Two.
Once the floors are dust and debris-free, quickly go over them with the Swiffer WetJet Wood with the disposable microfiber-like pads. Every time I mop my floors with the Swiffer WetJet, I am amazed at how quickly the solution dries and how clean they look.
#IHeartWoodFloors but I don’t heart having to work extra hard to keep them looking clean. The Swiffer WetJet Wood has become a household staple here and I proudly (okay, lazily) leave it propped up against the wall when I’m done using it. By keeping it within reach at all times I can quickly tackle those little messes that equate to an overall messy-looking home.
Oh, and music! Music while mopping is an absolute must. If you can’t have fun while cleaning, what’s the point? Seriously y’all, crank up the music and dance while you mop. Not only will you increase those activity points, but it makes the tasks go by so much quicker.
I refuse to live my life stressed about my dark floors looking messy. But the truth is, if I don’t clean them on the regular, nobody else will. This is putting me in charge of my own happiness at home and I’m embracing it day-by-day. The Swiffer WetJet Wood is honestly an effortless process and can literally be done with one hand because it has a battery operated sprayer and is so lightweight.
It’s no secret that Swiffer has great products, but if you have hardwood or laminate floors and haven’t tried the Swiffer WetJet Wood yet, you should definitely give it a try. You should never be stressed about hardwood floors looking dirty. It’s just not worth it.
