Capra’s classic tells the story of George Bailey, who, on Christmas Eve, is contemplating suicide until an angel, training for her wings, hears his plea and journeys through his memories to save his soul. The reconceived story has a female angel, allowing the opera to have a soprano voice and a tenor voice (George Bailey) instead of two male voices. This timeless story of second chances debuts just in time for the holiday season with a libretto by Gene Scheer. Sung in English with English supertitles. sfopera.com
