There are not many things I hate in this world, but mosquitos are at the top of my list. I absolutely despise that high pitched buzzing, those painful itchy bites, and how quickly they reproduce. The last thing I want to be dealing with when relaxing with my family in the backyard are mosquitos, so I’m exciting to be partnering with Mosquito Squad to get some useful tips on treating and preventing mosquito bites.
Bug Spray
Whether you’re camping, hiking or even just taking a walk in the park, a few sprays of bug spray on your skin and clothing will help you enjoy your outdoor adventure without having to be on swat alert. I recommend the Cutter Skinsations with Aloe & Vitamin E.
Tea Tree Oil
While tea tree oil can be healthy and healing for humans, it’s actually quite toxic to many insects. Put some of this on your skin before heading outside to reduce the risk of getting bit. If a mosquito manages to slip through, applying tea tree oil to the affected area will provide immediate relief. And while you’re at it, add a few drops on your oil diffuser and the lovely aroma will turn your home into a spa.
Garlic
Vampires aren’t the only blood-sucking creatures that can’t handle the potency of garlic. Mosquitos are right there with them, running away at first scent. Show these pests who’s in charge by placing garlic plants outside your home or on a windowsill and keep them away for good.
Marigold Seeds
At this point it’s probably become obvious that mosquitos are sensitive to smell. Unfortunately for them, we have access to an endless amount of scents that will keep them away, including marigolds. Plant and place these by entry-points, such as doors and windows, or on a deck or balcony. Your new plant will add to your home’s decor while keeping it mosquito free.
Socks
Hiking is one of summer’s most popular activities and while it provides us with gorgeous scenery and breathtaking views, it also increases our exposure to mosquitoes and ticks. So before you embark on your next rugged adventure, throw a good pair of tall, thick socks in the bottom of your pants to seal the entryway for any pests.
Hat
There’s nothing worse than getting a bug stuck in your hair, especially when it’s a mosquito with its own agenda.
