Springtime is such an inspiring time of year for me. For some, the start of a new year is a time to refresh your life and routine, but I see spring as the perfect time to revamp everything — new blossoms, busy bees, baby animals being born, and a fresh clean house (only for a moment if you have kids like mine).
The absolute basic fresh start to a wonderful spring is a clean house. Aside from the basics like dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, etc., there are some other important parts of the house that could stand to be refreshed. From your computer to the air you breathe, to the way you decorate, I’ve put together a “different kind of spring cleaning” checklist.
Spring Clean Like A Boss
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to happen in a day. Spread out the tasks to ensure you devote attention to some of the most important (and sometimes forgotten) dirty places in your home.
Blinds
I dust my blinds during my weekly cleaning routine, but I only deep clean them every so often. I can slide my faux wood blinds out and wash them individually, so I just toss them in my bathtub and give them a good scrub with soap and warm water. Once they are all wiped down and dry, I slide them back into place.
Carpets and Rugs
Vacuuming should be a part of your regular cleaning routine, but I highly recommend you invest in a carpet cleaner to get a deep clean. You can also rent a carpet cleaner or hire a professional service to get the job done.
Couches and Chairs
My #1 biggest piece of advice when couch or chair shopping is to get furniture with removable cushion covers. You can easily unzip the covers and toss them in your washing machine. If you have fabric on your dining chairs that can’t be removed, you can use your carpet cleaner extension hose to deep clean the chair’s fabric.
Bathrooms
Deep clean your toilets, wash your bathroom rugs, wipe down your cupboards and countertops, sweep and mop your floors. But don’t forget to also wipe down your doorknobs, the door itself, the windowsills, mirror, dust the lightbulbs, and change your shower curtain liner. All of these places can collect dust and hold in odors.
The Air You Breathe
Speaking of odors, let’s change your air filters in your home. These can get pretty dirty, especially if you live in a farming town like me. I prefer to change my air filters every season to ensure that my heater and air conditioner are working at their full capacity. This is also super important if you have allergies.
Once your air filters are clean, you can automatically freshen the air in your home using your favorite natural essential oil-infused fragrance from the Air Wick Essential Mist Kits. With elegant scents like lavender mixed with the sweet springy scent of almond blossom, or the refreshing scent of Fresh Water Breeze or Mandarin & Sweet Orange, every puff of Air Wick Essential Mist will have your home ready for everything from relaxing to entertaining.
If you haven’t had a chance to try the Air Wick Essential Mist yet, grab this $1.50 off coupon for use at your local Walmart when you enter for the chance to win a $50,000 Air Wick home makeover or a $5,000 Air Wick room makeover.
The Air Wick Essential Mist diffuser is compact and elegantly works with your spring decor. And because it’s battery-operated, you can take it with you from room to room. Check them out in the household cleaning aisle at your local Walmart for the lowest price.
The Laundry Room
I feel like the laundry room is often forgotten during our spring cleaning routine. I spend so much of my time in this room, so it’s important to me to keep it clean. Now is a great time to get rid of all of those socks that are still looking for a mate, clear off any stacks of clothes that have been sitting on top of the dryer or counter, deep clean the inside of the washer with a scrub brush, spray cleaner and water, and vacuum out the dryer tube (behind the dryer). This can easily get clogged up with lint and can become a fire hazard.
Smoke Detector Batteries
Since we’re on the topic of fire hazards, it’s time to change your smoke detector batteries. My rule of thumb is that this should be done every time we set the clocks forward or backwards.
The Kitchen
Ah, the kitchen. The place that everyone congregates, and the place that seems to get the messiest. It’s time to deep clean the oven and stove, clean out the refrigerator, freezer, and panty, and wipe down all of the counters and cupboards. It’s also time to give the garbage can a good wash or swap it out for a new one.
Spring Home Decor Ideas
Some people prefer to keep their home decor the same all year long, but I love to swap it out a few times a year. I have a few cupboards in my laundry room and garage where I store my seasonal decor, so that I can easily swap things out when I get bored.
Pillows
Pillows are one of the easiest ways to update the look of your couch. I love to collect different pillow covers that I can easily swap around.
Florals
I have crazy allergies during springtime, and while I love fresh blooms in the house, I tend to use fake flowers and succulents to decorate my home. Spring is when I take out my faux rose arrangements, and change my succulent flower pots to something a little lighter and brighter.
Fragrance
What you can’t see when it comes to updating your home is just as important as what you can see. I love to update my home’s fragrance seasonally and the natural oils from the Air Wick Essential Mist diffuser let me do that with ease.
Bedding
Does anyone else have a spring/summer quilt or comforter? I know a lot of people that love to change out their winter bedding for something a little lighter weight, and even lighter colored.
Mantle Decor
For springtime, I like to have lots of greenery and natural accents on my fireplace mantle. This year I have added cotton stems, a tobacco basket, a corrugated metal heart and some greenery.
Front Door
The front door is the first thing you see when you walk into your home, so set the tone with an updated wreath and door mat.
Springtime is the best time give your home a good deep clean. Let’s reset everything and start anew. Between adding a new scent to our Air Wick Essential Oils Mist diffuser, changing out our decor, and setting the right vibes the second you walk into the house, you’ll be ready for anything.
