Nothing is worse than learning your child has viewed inappropriate things on their tablet or phone. Unfortunately, I have been there done that, sigh. Every parent’s worst nightmare, right? I was horrified because I thought I was doing EVERYTHING right! I thought I was being vigilant and had all the right parental controls in place, but apparently, I did not do EVERYTHING. I will never forgive myself for that.
With that being said, I now completely guard everything from those little, innocent beings I created. You cannot and I mean CANNOT think your child would never do something like that because chances are they ARE or HAVE without your knowledge. No matter how innocent your child is, they can and they will see something inappropriate unless we as parents take control of their online viewing materials.
So what can a parent do?
Thank heavens there are great products out there to help you control what your child can see on the internet. We have a good one right now. When my youngest asks to get on my phone, I need to be sitting right next to him, monitoring all the content he is seeing. One app that has completely put my mind at ease is Jezter which is available on iOS only (hopefully that will change soon!).
Jezter Is An Easy-To-Use App That Gives Parents Piece Of Mind, it really has given me peace of mind. Jetzer is totally free to download and there are no in-app purchases, so you spend nothing! I love that about this app. But that is not the only thing I love about this app. I also love that it features a catalog of pre-selected digital content for children ages 2-12.
I can choose from hundreds of titles in YouTube, comics, games, educational and more. That way, my child is watching or playing something they WANT to watch/play and I know they are ‘safe’ online. You can log in as the parent and you are able to personalize your child’s screen time. Browse the catalog, preview content, add it to your library and then easily create a playlist by dragging and dropping! Your playlist can be as long (or short) as you want it to be. Plus, parents on the go can choose from Jetzer’s ‘Quick Picks’ which are pre-curated playlists created by the Jetzer team.
When your child logs in, Jezter allows them to browse and launch media in a safe, curated environment and that really gives me peace of mind. For increased parental control, remember to turn on the Guided Access feature within your settings (General>Accessibility>Guided Access>On). That will allow for your child to be locked to Jezter without the possibility of exiting the app!
Not Just Entertainment!
Jezter is not just another entertainment platform! It is also for educating your child. Your child’s device can be turned into a digital classroom where they can learn a bunch of things like how to code (my oldest child’s favorite!), exploring places they have never been before or to simply practice their math skills with fun, algebra games.
When you do download and use Jezter, be sure to leave a review for it. The platform relies heavily on the feedback it receives from its users. Tell them what you love, don’t love and ideas on how they can improve their app, just by clicking the feedback button in the settings section.
