I’m sure we can all agree that we would all like a few extra hours a sleep a night. But the chances are you are getting less than you would like and this is possibly down to some of the things you do before heading to bed. Sleep is something that really helps us be productive throughout the day. We can have raised energy levels and feel more alert and able to concentrate on things. So it is a vital part of our daily lives and not to be taken lightly. So I thought I would share with you some of the ways you can get more sleep, starting tonight.
Invest in the place you sleep
First of all, you need to consider investing where you sleep. It is, after all, the place that you lay your head at night, so it needs to be comfortable and also it needs to be supportive. This may not necessarily mean replacing your entire bed, you may like that piece of furniture, but it certainly does mean thinking about replacing the mattress. A quick look online will highlight the best mattress reviews so that you can get the best one for you. Once you have done that you will instantly see the difference in the way you sleep.
Put the technology away
You also need to consider putting away the technology. Using an iPad or your phone before bed will actually make you less likely to have a restful nights sleep, even if you are reading a book on your smartphone or scrolling through the latest headlines. It doesn’t make you more tired it keeps your mind stimulated, which can then go on to effect your sleep.
Create your own bedtime routine
We are encouraged to set out a bedtime routine for children, but the same principle can be applied to you in your adult life, and it can really improve your sleep. Of course, you don’t need to be as extreme as bath, warm drink and then bed. You can be a little more relaxed about it. But the same sort of idea should be applied. Relaxation, something calming and then bed. Avoid any distractions and get comfortable to set the tone for a restful nights sleep.
Stay clear of the alcohol and caffeine
We are all aware that alcohol and caffeine can be stimulants, so it is important to understand that you should be staying clear from these to ensure that you are free from any stimulant that will keep you awake at night.
Avoid big meals at night
Finally, big meals can be a huge problem to you if you eat to late at night. This is because your body does not have to digest the food, and so when you lie down it sits in your stomach and can cause you stomach pain or even lead to puttin on extra weight. The biggest meal should be had in the morning, and then a lighter meal at night to give your body chance to digest the food properly.
I hope that these tips help you get more sleep.
