Everyone thinks of the start of a new year as the best time to start afresh, but if we’re strictly honest with ourselves, it’s easier said than done. January is still sweater and couch and hot chocolate weather – but March? That’s when springtime finally starts to appear for real and it gets a whole lot easier to turn over any new leaf that you like. Here are some tips on how to get healthy this springtime…
Get Active
First of all, it’s important to get active. It isn’t really possible to get healthy and feel good about yourself through diet alone – one of the joys of true health is feeling the way that your body moves like a well-oiled machine, so it’s important to get yourself toned and fit by getting active. If you don’t think you’re the sort of person who’s cut out for a gym membership then why not try fitness classes like yoga or Zumba instead? It’s also a great idea to start really appreciating the glorious spring weather and blue skies by walking more, whether that’s ditching your car and walking to and from work or visiting local beauty spots to hike.
Eat Fresh
Make the most of all the fresh spring produce by starting to cook from scratch. Convenience foods can be great if you’re in a rush but let’s face it – is it really a good idea to put ingredients that you don’t really know or understand in your body? Investigate the seasonal fruits and vegetables in your local stores and go for meat and poultry that’s free range, which means the animals were treated well – you’ll definitely taste the difference. If you’re not sure about what nutrients you need, the work.
Go Outside
Let’s face it – going outside seems a whole lot more appealing when there isn’t snow and ice to battle through. Even if you still need to wrap up warm, you’re much more likely to find palatable weather these days – even if you’re in the southern hemisphere, the oppressively hot summer sun should be starting to cool down a little. Getting plenty of fresh air will encourage you to exercise more and it’ll also be great for your mental health – try to get outside during your lunch break to clear your head and breathe in some fresh air.
Begin A New Challenge
Now is the time of year to start anew, to get to know yourself a little better, so why not set yourself a challenge? Aim to do a half marathon next year and try out Couch To 5K to start yourself on your journey to that marathon.
