Plan properly and effectively, and you won’t have any trouble at all.
Doctors
Make sure you are registered at a doctor’s surgery immediately – possibly even before your move. The last thing you want, especially if you have kids, is to turn up and be denied an appointment before having to fill out a plethora of forms or worse, having to be put on a waiting list before you even get to these forms. When something goes drastically wrong then you can go straight to the hospital, but for minor ailments that need quick treatment then not being able to get yourself booked in at a surgery can be a nuisance; this is exacerbated even more if it’s an appointment for your child.
Dentists
Along with registering for your general health, make sure you get booked in and friendly with those who can look after your oral well being. It is recommended that you visit the dentists at least once every 6 months to get checked over, although it may be more or less depending on how well you look after your teeth. If you can’t get an appointment booked before something goes wrong, then don’t worry too much – just look for your nearest emergency dentist online. Rather than going to ER, dentists have a bit more flexibility than doctors to have emergency treatment available in their own clinics.
Schools
Again, this is definitely something that will need to happen before you start your move. If you have the opportunity to go and have a look round the school before you get there, this will be a huge bonus; relying on recommendations and reviews may not give you a true snapshot of the place. Remember to take your child with you and let them get a feel for it as well. This will allow you to sort out the finer details which may need skimming over with the teachers before your child’s start date.
Communities
If you won’t know anyone at the place you’re moving to, immerse yourself in the local community; join some local groups which take your interest, or if you have a young child then get involved in some baby and toddler sessions that may be running. If none of these things exist then now’s the time to create your own – there’s no better way of meeting the exact type of person that you want to meet than starting up your own activity! It could be anything from sports to crafts to technology; there is always something that you could put out there that will gain at least one person’s interest.
