Our homes shouldn’t just look beautiful on the inside, the same care should be reflected on the outside, too. Not only will this add value to your home, but it’s the first thing guests see when they arrive at the house. A well-presented exterior shows you have put love and care into your home, and allows you to feel proud every time you come back. Here’s how you can make your neighbors envious by being the smartest looking, and prettiest house on the street!
Paint The Exterior
Fences, gates, garage doors and the paintwork on the house itself will all need redoing every couple of years to keep it at its best. If yours has started to fade or is not look as clean and new as it once did, a coat of paint will bring it right back up to scratch. If you’re not confident on a ladder or just want a professional job doing, you could consider hiring an exterior painter. Exterior paint can either smarten up an existing paint job or completely transform the look of your house. For example, an ugly looking pebble dash, or mismatched bricks can be made over massively by a coat of paint.
Tidy Your Front Garden
Even during the fall and winter when there’s not much going on in the garden, you can still keep it looking neat and tidy. On a dry day, cut the lawn (adjusting your mower blades to cut a longer, winter length) which will keep it looking nice without the risk of killing it off. Add evergreen plants and shrubs to your pots and borders to keep it looking lively. You could even look into winter flowering plants for a splash of color.
Add Hanging Baskets
As well as plants and flowers in your garden, adding them to hanging baskets either side of your front door creates a welcoming entrance. Inquire at your local garden center about flowers that will bloom from now until the spring. They’re a little more difficult to find than spring and summer flowers but there are some out there. When everyone else’s garden displays and hanging baskets have died back for the year, yours will still be flourishing and making your home look beautiful.
Add a New Welcome Mat
Another way to bring a welcoming touch to the front of your home is as simple as adding a welcome mat. Along with your hanging baskets it brings a gorgeous homely look to even the plainest of porches or entrance ways. Welcome mats can wear out quickly, particularly in bad weather. So replacing them every six months or so will help keep everything looking neat and tidy.
Decorate by Season
Embrace whatever season or holiday it is using classy decorations for your home. Putting a big wreath on the door, whether it’s colorful leaves for autumn, fir branches for Christmas or fresh flowers for the spring and summer is a fun way to decorate your home. With Christmas on the way, in December you could display small white led lights in windows and on outdoor trees for example. Much more subtle than flashing colorful lights!
