There is nothing quite so sophisticated and stylish as a garden party. With all those finger sandwiches, tea and bone china. But before you get all your friends over, you need to make sure you garden is in tip top form. Follow my tips to ensure you garden is gorgeous and party worthy.
Weeding
Before you get dressed in your best finery for your tea party, you will need to get your dirty old scrubs on and get the weeding done. A garden will never look its best if it is full of unwanted weeds that are out of control. Makes sure you have some gloves to protect your hands and a pad to protect your knees. Then you can start to pull those little blighters up by the roots. To stop them coming back, use a weed killer, but make sure you read the label carefully, as some can be problematic if you have pets that use the garden too.
Flowers
There are two options to getting a beautiful garden full of flowers. The first one is to wait until spring and sew plenty of seeds. Make sure that you combine your garden soil with compost so that you plants will have enough nutrients to grow. Don’t forget to protect them from the wee beasties like slugs and snails that want a snack.
The second way is to buy plants that have already grown. They all you need to do is dig holes. Pop them in and hey presto, a ready-made garden. Ensure that you dig a deep enough hole so that each plant has spaces for its roots to stretch out. Adding some compost to the bottom of the opening before you put the roots in is also a good idea. Remember that you need to gently break the root ball of the plant, so they are free to start spreading through the soil. Then finish with a proper watering and you should be good to go.
Patio
We might not think about our patio too much until people come over and then we realize how dirty and old it’s looking. That is why you need to give you patio a good check over before you host your party. Make sure that it is level, and there are no bits sticking out that people could trip on. If it’s, looking kind of dirty, use solar lights in the day, so they can charge and be ready to light your event come evening time.
Furniture
You can have the best food and the nicest cocktails, but if you don’t provide your guests anywhere to sit, the party will be a flop. Check you garden furniture is in good repair and that there is enough for a number of people you are inviting. Steer clear of the cheap and nasty white plastic chairs and go for wood or metal instead. If you are holding a really big gathering you can hire chairs for the occasion. Or if you wanted a more relaxed feel, why not use blankets and pillows on the ground?
