Summer is upon us, and it’s important to get the most out of these days before the cold winds are back. Don’t let these few months pass you by, follow these tips in order for you and your family to enjoy your summer in a healthy and happy way.
Get Outside
With the better weather and longer days, there’s no excuse for everyone to be inside all day. Take the kids into to the garden or local park for some fresh air and vitamin D. Try games and activities to keep them entertained, or just pick your favorite books and relax on a blanket.
A Change Of Scenery
Summer is the most popular time to go on vacation. Beach or activity holidays are perfect for the whole family as there are plenty of things to do. Pack sensibly for holidays, and do your research before you go so you can make the most of your time there. If you aren’t going away, there are still plenty of things you can do closer to home. Day trips and short trips are just as fun, just browse around for the best deals. Even a picnic at a nearby garden or field can make a fun day out.
Keep Everyone Protected
It’s important to enjoy the sun safely. Use sunscreen every day, whether the sun is hot or not. Avoid the sun’s damaging UV rays between 10 am and 2 pm, and keep yourself covered up with light clothing. Take extra care with children’s delicate skin, applying specialized sunscreen for them and making them wear hats and protective clothing.
Keep Hydrated
During the warmer season, it is easy to get dehydrated. Our bodies need water to perform basic bodily functions, transport oxygen around the body and improve brain performance. We are advised to drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, so make sure you keep yourself topped up when you out in the heat.
Dress For The Weather
Summer is a fun time for the fashion conscious. After long months of layers and wrapping up, it’s finally time to get those pretty summer dresses and cute shorts out. Buy yourself a couple of new garments this summer and try out some new trends. Minkpink have lovely outfits, or head to the charity shops and try on some retro styles.
Try New Meals
Summer is a great time to try new foods. There are loads of fruit and vegetables in season, and eating al fresco is finally a possibility! Try different marinated meats and veggies on the BBQ or whip up a summer dessert. There are plenty of fun recipes online, and it’s good to get the kids involved as well. You may find a new family favorite!
Get Moving
The warm and dry summer months make an excellent time to get exercising and moving. Pack up some lunch and go on a long bike ride, or head to the coast for swimming and beachball. Exercise is an important part of keeping healthy, and it im vital that we teach our children this as well.
Socialize
Invite the neighbors over for a BBQ or plan a trip with the rest of the family. Invite your children’s friends parents around and get to know new people. There’s plenty of things you can do during the Summer that can involve other people and families. Long conversations in the garden, with tasty food and good friends, is what summer is all about!
Plan Some ‘Me’ Time
If you are part of a busy family, try to remember that it is your summer as well. Put aside some time to enjoy your own company. Whether this is an afternoon getting a beauty treatment or a shopping trip with friends. While your family is important, make sure you are looking after your own mental health as well. If you have had time to relax on your own, then you will enjoy family time even more.
Try Something New
There’s always something new you can try. Whether it’s a new shopping mall, fancy restaurant, or play park. Branch out and try something you’ve never done before. You could make new friends and find new hobbies while you’re at it!
Most importantly, appreciate your summer! Take as many opportunities as possible to get moving and filling your days with new experiences. Make sure you book in plenty of things that you enjoy and don’t waste a single moment of it!
