When thinking of my ideal vacation destination, it almost always includes a warm ocean, a clean beach, beautiful resort pools and good food. Luckily, my family also agrees that a beach destination is the way to go. With all of that water on vacation plus having a pool at home, teaching my girls how to swim at a young age is a must.
My husband and I started introducing Charlotte to the water when she was just about six months old. She’s now four and can swim pretty well on her own. She absolutely loves our pool at home and enjoys the kid’s pools at resorts. Now, my youngest, Kendall, is 17-months-old and I plan to start teaching her to swim this summer so she can keep up with her big sister.
For little ones, pools and learning how to swim can be intimidating. Getting their face and ears wet is an awkward sensation when it’s outside of the bath or shower and it’s tricky to teach them to relax in the water. I’ve been learning some helpful techniques on the SwimWays site,
