Summertime is the best time to grow herbs outdoors but we found a simple trick to have fresh herbs readily available year-round. A mason jar, some potting soil, small rocks or gravel and some of your favorite herb seeds is all you need to get this garden party started.
Step 1 – Start with a clean, dry mason jar (half pint).
Step 2 – In this order, start filling the jar with a small handfuls of gravel, rock, and soil.
Step 3 – Plant about 15 of your favorite herb seeds under a shallow layer or soil in the top of your jar.
Step 4 – Label your jars with little flags or stickers so you don’t get them mixed up.
Growing tip: Keep herb garden mason jars in an area that gets sunlight about six hours per day. I like to keep mine in my kitchen window above my sink. They get great sunlight and it reminds me to water them every few days.

This looks so easy and fun. I may try this when spring arrives, I would love to have fresh basil! 🙂

Okay, these are just so pretty! I've been wanting to grow some herbs indoors, but didn't know how to make it look nice, too. Thanks for the printables! They make it look so finished.

I love this idea! I've been thinking about starting a small herb garden in our backyard for awhile now. I like this concept so much better. It would be great to be able to keep these fresh herbs in your kitchen and you can just use them as needed. LOVE IT!
