You’re hiding behind the camera instead of posing for a picture because you’re ashamed of your red skin or Rosacea.
Sound familiar? This is totally me. I’ve had blotchy, red skin since I can remember and I’ve always been self conscious about it.
Always!
There have been so many products on the market throughout the years, as we all know, that claim to reduce redness and help sensitive skin. In my experiences, using a lot of those products has never proven to be helpful which has always led me to purchase makeup that covers redness.
During the summertime, my redness shows a little less because I usually have a nice tan, but I still wear some sort of foundation. However, on my recent vacation to Turks and Caicos, I had these moments of pure makeup-less confidence at the pools and on the beach thanks to a new serum I’ve been using from a company called Repechage. Repechage sent me a couple of products to try last month and I agreed to test them out, not thinking I would see results (judging from my past experiences with redness reducing products). I received their Hydra 4 Red-Out Serum ($85) and the other was the Hydra 4 Red-Out Calming Cleanser ($49).
My favorite of the two products I received is the Red-Out Serum.
Of course I liked the most expensive product, right?
I’m not a fan of most cleansers because they don’t seem to take my makeup off the way that a good ‘ol bar soap does. I’ve been using the Dove Beauty Bar (white bar soap) since high school and it’s always worked wonders. It’s not too drying and seems to take my makeup off really well. I do keep my Repechage cleanser in the shower and use it in the mornings when I don’t have makeup on, though. While I don’t notice a huge difference in the redness of my skin after my showers, I’ll still continue using the cleanser until I run out because I haven’t noticed any negative effects.
Why I love the serum:
I have sensitive skin. I’ve established that. You all get, right?
My skin not only has tons of redness in random spots, but it has Keratosis Pilaris. Lucky me!
So, finding a serum that doesn’t clog my pores is like finding a gold nugget in a pile of pumpkins. It’s rare! The Repechage Red-Out serum honestly reduces my redness so much that don’t feel the need to wear foundation everyday. You have no idea what this has done to my confidence.
The Red-Out serum isn’t super moisturizing but I am able to layer it under my daily moisturizer with no issues. It dries pretty quickly, too, so I don’t have that gooey feeling after putting it on.
Now my only problem is that I’m going to have to come up with $85 each time I run out of this magical serum.
Active Ingredients:
MicroSilver BG
Produced from pure metallic silver, Micro Silver BG is used in the treatment of irritated and inflamed skin. It works by releasing soluble silver ions at the surface of the skin, thus forming an invisible layer of protection. The silver ions then react to unwanted micro-organisms, causing them to be destroyed.
Rutin
a complex sugar that is found in buckwheat, asparagus, rhubarb, and the peels of citrus fruit. It is considered a mild anti-inflammatory agent and a strong antioxidant. Rutin has the ability to regenerate vitamin C, helping the skin to restore its antioxidant potential after damage caused by free radicals. It can also protect the skin from agents that accelerate the aging of skin cells. Rutin also has been known to maintain healthy blood circulation.
Quercetin
A member of the flavonoid family, Quercetin is known to have antioxidant properties. Research has shown that Quercetin has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It can neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from damaged caused by sun exposure. Quercetin can keep skin looking younger for longer. It can also diminish fine lines and wrinkles and improve the skin’s texture and elasticity. Studies show that when applied topically, quercetin can increase the production of both collagen and fibronectin, which keep the skin healthy.
Laminaria Digitata Extract
a large, tough, glossy kelp that is known to revitalize the skin. Also known as an effective antioxidant, Laminaria Digitata extract helps repair damage caused by free radicals and improve dull skin complexions.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder (Organic)
thought to have originated in tropical Africa, Aloe is used to soothe the skin and serve as an anti-inflammatory agent. It is also used to protect the skin from UV damage and promote skin cell rejuvenation.
Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Fruit Water
made as a byproduct of steam distillation from the blossoms of an orange tree, Orange Water is useful in refining pores and restoring skin vitality. Due to its mildly astringent properties, Orange Water is able to refresh oily skin and prevent blemishes.
Mirabilis Jalapa Extract
Native to tropical America, Mirabilis Jalapa is commonly used in areas of Brazil to treat inflammatory and painful diseases. This extract is known to be useful against inflammation and dry skin.
Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract
rich in iron, calcium, vitamins and antioxidants, Rosemary Leaf extract helps prevent aging and infections. It has the ability to stimulate cell growth to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Rosemary extract is also known to help treat acne, improve skin complexion, reduce swelling and soothe the skin.
Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract
known to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and astringent properties, Sage leaf extract has the ability to protect the skin from free radicals and reverse the signs of aging. The regulation of sebum production in oily skin has also been associated with Sage leaf extract.
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract
the presence of flavonoid, apigenin, and essential oil compounds, such as bisabolol and chamazulene make Chamomile extract an effective anti-inflammatory agent. Studies have shown that Chamomile contains antioxidant, antiseptic, and antimicrobial properties that help protect the skin from infection and speed up healing.
Melissa Officinalis Leaf Extract
Rich in caffeic and rosmarinic acids, Lemon Balm Leaf Extract is known to trigger a healthy immune response and strengthen cell walls. It is also known for calming the skin and treating inflammation. The caffeic and ferulic acid present in Lemon Balm allows it to penetrate deep into the skin and protect it against UV-radiation and sun damage.
