This is actually coming from a tip I learned from the Raising a Rock Star Reader book by Amy Mascott and Allison McDonald. Tip #25 in this awesome book talks about setting up a library book parade to encourage kids to want to grab a book and read it.
Since bookshelves often hide books, I completely agree with setting the books out and having them open to encourage kids to grab them. The whole “out of sight, out of mind thing” is fitting when talking about books tucked in a bookshelf. A book tucked away is a book that gets forgotten in our home and it’s such a shame.
Just in time for Halloween, I made sure to have our Halloween books out on display to remind us to grab one and read it before bedtime. Not only have we read the books before bedtime, but we find ourselves flipping through the pages randomly throughout the day, too.
