Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection Blu-Ray Review and Giveaway

From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes the Shorts Film Collection, an extraordinary new collection of award-winning and beloved shortfilms featuring Disney’s Frozen Fever, starring Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Sven and Kristoff, and the Oscar®-nominated Lorenzo.  It will be available early on Digital HD/Disney Movies Anywhere August 11 and you can bring it home on Blu-ray™ August 18.  Enjoy this must-own collection with all-new extras including an inside look at the Disney Animation shorts, featuring introductions and interviews with the acclaimed filmmakers themselves. 

I personally got a copy of the Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD combo pack to get familiar with the films and I couldn’t be more excited.  Having never seen the hugely talked about “Frozen Fever,” I was most excited to watch this Disney short.  My family sat down one evening and went through every short film and loved each and every one of them for different reasons.  Below, I share my thoughts on a few of the films, but you’ve really got to see them for yourself.
Feast (2014) – Academy Award® Winner, Patrick Osborne, Kristina Reed
A lonely puppy living on the streets gets picked up by a single guy who completely spoils him with table scraps… until that guy meets a girl.  They go from eating junk food daily to healthy, more sophisticated foods.  The second they break up, the dog and his owner go back to their junk food out of sadness until they find a parsley garnish and think of the lady.  Seeing his owner filled with sadness, the dog chases down the lady, reunites the couple and they end up getting married.

Frozen Fever (2015) – Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee, Peter Del Vecho, Aimee Scribner
This is a much sunnier extension of Frozen.  Think sunflowers, shorter dresses, etc.  Elsa decides to throw Anna a party when her plans come to a halt due to a cold.  There’s lots of mini snowmen and the same great characters in this short film.

Get A Horse! (2013) – Academy Award® Nominated, Dorothy McKim, Eric Goldberg, Adam Green
I really enjoyed seeing how the filmmakers went from 2D to 3D with this film.

How to Hook Up Your Home Theater (2007) – Kevin Deters, Stevie Wermers-Skelton, Ian Gooding
This film features the oh-so-entertaining Goofy.  He attempts to assemble a home theater and in typical goofy fashion, goofs it up.  It really depicts the real life struggle of the ever-confusing instruction manuals.

John Henry (2000) – Mark Henn
This is a great tale of a super strong man that helps a community with his strength and selflessness.  The song from this short is STILL stuck in my head.

The Little Matchgirl (2006) – Academy Award® Nominated, Dave Bossert, Tom MacDougall
This was such a sad film.  It’s about a little girl that lives on the streets in the snow and dreams of being with a family.  As she lights a match, her mind drifts to a warmer, safer place, until the match goes out.  This one doesn’t end well and is just so sad.

Lorenzo (2004) – Academy Award® Nominated, Mike Gabriel
Lorenzo is a cat who was cursed with a tale that became a character of his own.  Just when I thought this film was taking a turn for the weird, it ended on a happy note.  It has a fun New Orleans theme about it and fun Tango music.

Paperman (2012) – Academy Award® Winner, Kristina Reed, John Kahr
There’s no talking in this film, just music.  It’s such a beautiful story of love at first site and the filmmakers did a great job at conveying the message.

Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa (2010) – Kevin Deters, Stevie Wermers-Skelton, Dorothy McKim
In this short, Santa has been collecting the pieces to the first toy he ever made.  The elves go on a mission to do Mrs. Claus a favor to get Santa the missing part to complete the toy.  This would even be a great full length film.

Tangled Ever After (2012) – Nathan Greno, Aimee Scribner, Mark Kennedy
Tangled Ever After comes from the movie about Rapunzel with Mandy Moore.  Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder are getting married and it wouldn’t be a true Disney movie if there wasn’t some silliness.  Maximus (the horse) and Rapunzel’s chameleon lose the rings and go on quite the journey to recover them.

The Ballad of Nessie (2011) – Kevin Deters, Stevie Wermers-Skelton, Dorothy McKim
Nessie was a cute one.  I really enjoyed hearing the filmmakers story behind Nessie.  She’s such a sweet, loving character.  Much different than the typical Loch Ness tales.

Tick Tock Tale (2010) – Dean Wellins
This film was one of my family’s favorites.  It’s about a brave clock that sacrifices himself for his fellow clocks and shop owner.  A must-see!

    There is a Disney Short called Destino that is really interesting. It was a collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador Dali. It's quite beautiful.

    I don't remember any particular shorts that I loved. I'm sure I enjoyed some, but I don't remember a specific one.

    I love the Knick Knack short, where the snowman inside of his snowglobe just wants to get out and join the sunnier locale knick knacks. I also love all of the Ice Age shorts, where the squirrel gets into his many adventures to save his acorn. However, these are both Pixar. Nonetheless, they're really good! I'm looking forward to seeing these cute Disney shorts!
