The former best-selling children’s book, A Very Special Snowflake by Don Hoffman has now become an interactive storybook app for the iPad. This hilarious children’s book about a community that comes together to find a lost puppy who isn’t really lost has never been better thanks to this awesome app.
A Very Special Snowflake app encourages children to get involved in the story in various ways. Kids can read the story themselves or follow along as the female narrator reads the story aloud. Kids can also have fun looking for Snowflake the puppy in each scene as the realistic snow falls on each page.
This app has a fun “Hide-and-Seek Your Face” feature that allows you to take a picture of yourself so the app can incorporate it into the story. You then have to try to find your face in each scene just like you did with Snowflake the puppy. This is a fun activity for kids ages three and under as it is pretty easy to find your face in the different scenes.
Another fun feature in this app is the “Create Your Own Scene” game. This is my personal favorite because my daughter and I have so much fun placing the characters and objects all over the page. The app allows you to save each scene so you can look back on the fun scenes you’ve created. I like to ask my daughter to explain what is going on in each scene she creates which really gets her imagination going.
This interactive storybook app is only $2.99 in the iTunes store with no in-app purchases. So that’s it! Just $2.99 for a well-made, interactive app for kids. The graphics are crystal clear and we haven’t run into any snags or delays in the app which is so important for keeping kids entertained. My daughter tends to lose interest if an app loads slowly so I always take the load time into consideration when reviewing an app.
