We love sharing exciting apps with you all, especially when they support a great cause. We recently learned of a children’s app called Alphie the Squid and their new partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The app’s download fee is $2.99 in the Apple iTunes store and $1 of every purchase goes to the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Children’s Education Fund.
Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars in the iTunes store, Alphie the Squid is a great educational game for kids and parents alike. Alphie the Squid is an ocean exploration game that follows a cute little squid, Alphie, through the ocean as he eats to grow up into a giant squid. At the beginning of the game, Alphie’s mom is chased off by a great white shark. and he begins his journey to find her. Now with this latest release of content, players can finally find out what happens at the end of the game!
The NapTime Reviewer’s Thoughts
First of all, this app has amazing graphics. I feel like I’m playing a video game on a video game system. Also, my daughter and I love that we can play through the game without any glitches or issues. Too often we find a great kid’s app that just seems to have problems. My daughter (3-years old) can easily play this app with very little assistance from mommy but older kids would enjoy it, as well. We actually visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium earlier this year so she just loves that the game has squid and fish like the aquarium.
The app suggests to use headphones for a better listening experience but I’ve noticed that it’s the only way to actually hear sound. For some reason, the app’s sound won’t work on our iPad without headphones but to be honest, I prefer that my daughter uses headphones when she plays with the iPad.
I haven’t finished the game yet but I can’t wait to see how it ends. To find out for yourself how the game ends, download it from one of these markets:
