I am an avid coffee drinker in the morning, but with the hot summer months ahead I am always looking for alternatives to a hot cup of coffee. I just can’t bring myself to drink something hot when it’s already 85 degrees outside at 9 a.m.!

When out and about I like to treat myself occasionally to something cool and frosty, like a green tea frappe at the local coffee shop. It’s a great coffee alternative and still gives me a little pick me up! Now I can make something similar at home with great tasting Matcha green tea powder from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company. I was so impressed with the flavor of the Matcha tea, and I liked it even better than my coffee shops’ green tea! My son even said it tasted just as good as Starbucks! For around $15.00 I can make a summers’ worth of frothy drinks, savings me tons of money (and gas!).
I tried a few different variations with the frappe portions, but here is my favorite combination:
* 1 Tablespoon Matcha green tea powder
* 3/4 cup ice
* 1/2 cup vanilla liquid coffee creamer – regular or fat free
* 1/2 cup honeydew melon chunks (more if you like more fruit)
Blend until milkshake consistency and enjoy! Makes 2 servings. You could virtually make this with any melon or fruit, or even different flavors of the coffee creamer, for some variety.
If you’re not into the blended drinks or caffeine, you may want to check out the Citrus Green, Decaf. This tea is great hot or served over ice. The robust lemon-lime flavor combined with the exotic green tea flavor makes this such a refreshing choice.
You can see in the image below the exact texture of this green tea. The bold chunks of citrus really do put a twist on a classic green tea.
