You all know that my family and I do a lot of traveling – and when we travel we like to post lots of pictures on our social media pages. When we travel out of the country we never pay for the roaming capability in hopes that our hotels/condos have wifi. While this has always worked out just fine for us, there are the possibilities of running into issues – just like they did during the Olympics in Russia. Luckily, an app called TunnelBear has worked to eliminate any potential issues to make it much safer for travelers to use their internet devices.
What is TunnelBear?
TunnelBear is the world’s easiest to use VPN app for iOS that privately “tunnels” your internet connection to locations around the world. TunnelBear can be used to protect your privacy, to bypass internet censorship and to experience the internet as people in other countries experience it.
How Does TunnelBear work?
TunnelBear creates a private, encrypted connection between your iPhone, iPad and a server in the host country you want to connect to. If your communications are intercepted before they reach the TunnelBear servers, they’ll just look like unreadable jargon. To the internet it will look like your signal originated in the host server country.
How much usage do I get with the Tunnelbear App?
The free Tunnelbear App gives you 500mb. You can also upgrade your account if needed which also gives you a bit of added security.
Why should I use TunnelBear when traveling?
If you are on an unsecured public Wi-Fi network (as I was at The Office restaurant in Cabo), you should turn on TunnelBear to reduce the chance that others can snoop on your communications. TunnelBear encrypts the data on your computer before it sends it out over Wi-Fi.
The free version of TunnelBear uses a modest form of encryption while the upgraded version uses a stronger form of encryption to keep your data safe.
So, to keep the creepers out of your business… use TunnelBear.
