I love cupcakes, well anything sweet for that matter! These days cupcakes have become so popular, with cupcake shops popping up everywhere and even cupcake trucks showing up at street fairs and farmers’ markets. In the town next to where we live there is a cupcake truck that simply parks along popular streets and sells cupcakes like crazy!
I recently received a set of “Batter Babies” to try. This is a clever product as you can combine 2 flavors, like chocolate and peanut butter, in one cupcake. The process of using Batter Babies is really simple. You just prepare your cupcake batter as per the usual instructions. Then you place your cupcake liners in your pan and insert a Batter Babies divider. The ripples of the cupcake holder help keep the Batter Babies in place. I only had one flavor of cake mix on hand, key lime, so I decided to just play with a color combination. I made the cake mix following the box instructions. I separated about 1/4 of the batter and tinted it a darker shade of green. After filling both sides of the cupcake, you remove the Batter Babies before baking. Batter Babies comes in a package of 6, so I baked 6 two tone and 6 regular cupcakes. I would recommend buying 2 packages so you can do the whole dozen. I decorated them with key lime frosting and then topped them with some harvest themed sprinkles.
I think using Batter Babies to make some red and green cupcakes for the holidays would be so cute! Think how cute these would be for baby showers made with light pink and light blue (for those not knowing baby’s sex) or in colors matching the baby shower theme! I was thinking ahead to our Super Bowl party in January – making these in the colors of the 2 teams and using football sprinkles! I read on the Kimber Cakeware website that some bakers use 2 dividers per cupcake for an awesome treat.
