For preschool-aged kids, or any aged kids for that matter, the first day of school might sound scary, but thanks to a new augmented reality app from Playing Forward, kids are getting a chance to experience the first day of school through the digital world of a girl named Lizzy.
Lizzy’s World App
Lizzy’s World is an easy-to-use app that allows children to flip between augmented reality and cinematic 3D animation, giving kids the opportunity to really feel like they’re experiencing their first day of school with Lizzy.
Lizzy is a very relatable character, not wanting to get out of bed, and being reluctant to get on the bus for the first time. When Lizzy pops up in your living room, thanks to the AR feature of this app, kids (at least mine) are instantly hooked.
We live in a time where Augmented Reality is the norm, and Lizzy’s World is a great way to introduce preschoolers to this type of technology. The app is colorful and easy to use, and the narrator can be muted if needed. I personally love the narrator reading the story, since my little Kendall doesn’t know how to read yet.
Lizzy’s World is more than just a fun app telling a story. It was designed to reflect a young child’s emotional development, giving kids the chance to find new ways to express their feelings. The STEAM-powered story shares the fun aspects of school like math, science, reading, and art.
More About The Creative Studio, Playing Forward
The creative studio behind Lizzy’s World, Playing Forward, designs apps that are geared towards helping develop kids’ social emotional skills. Social emotion development is key to success in life and in school, and through apps like Lizzy’s World that offer movie-quality visual effects and the use of Augmented Reality, kids are more excited than ever to learn and be imaginative.
Playing Forward’s name comes from the fact that the company is “playing it forward” to give every child the very best shot at a happy childhood and a successful adulthood. The company was founded by John Attard and Victor Talbot, Academy Award winners for Visual Effects. The pair has worked on 100+ films, television & digital series, Broadway & Off-Broadway shows and more. In addition to the VX Oscar for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, notable projects include work on Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Disney); The Jungle Book (Disney); Superman vs. Batman (Warner Bros.); Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Marvel); and Avengers 3 (Marvel).
Playing Forward’s apps have been beta-tested in over 18 classrooms across the US and Canada where over 300 children got the chance to experience stories in both Augmented Reality and cinematic 3D. Their three character-driven apps are based on books and give kids a unique way to experience storytelling: a Penguin Publishing classic (“MAXI THE TAXI DOG”), a story from Stan Lee’s Kids Universe series (“DEX T-REX”), and Lizzy’s World featuring the STEAM-powered character from a new independent book series (“IT’S JUST SO…”).
