I just love a nice cold glass of eggnog during this time of year. My brother and I constantly debate over whose eggnog is better – store bought or mom’s homemade eggnog. I typically try to stay away from the homemade eggnog because of the “raw egg thing” but I just found a new brand of eggs that makes consumption of raw eggs safe. No, really.
Nearly 4 out of 5 Salmonella-related foodborne illness cases share a common vehicle: raw or undercooked eggs. But Davidson’s Safest Choice eggs have been pasteurized in a warm water bath to eliminate the risk of salmonella. That’s it – just time + temperature + water. This means ANYONE can eat eggs any way they’d like– sunny side up with runny yolks, raw in a morning smoothie, homemade eggnog…and you (and your kids) can even safely indulge in cookie dough – without any risks when you’re baking.
I never thought I would be this excited to share eggs with you all but I’m a “spoon licker” and cookie dough-eater so I’m more than thrilled to find safe eggs. I found these eggs at my local Sprout market but you can use the Store Locator tool to find a retailer near you.
Davidson’s Safest Choice eggs taste just like regular eggs you buy at the store, they’re just safer. My family has been enjoying them scrambled up for breakfast, in our holiday baked goods and of course, in eggnog. Here’s an easy kid-friendly eggnog recipe for you to try:
